Have you seen a can of Trema café at the convenience store or grocery store? Trema is a ready-to-drink latte, touted as the first 100% Quebecois canned latte. Behind the brand are Louis Morissette, Phil Roy, and entrepreneur Jonathan Robin. Here's everything you need to know about this local iced coffee: flavors, ingredients, and where to find it.
Trema café: a canned latte made in Quebec
Trema was launched on November 19, 2024, after a project of about three years. The idea: to offer a cold latte, convenient to slip into a bag, made with local milk. Each 330 ml can is best enjoyed cold, whether in the morning, at the office, or during a day outdoors.
Who makes Trema café?
The brand is co-founded by businessman and comedian Louis Morissette and comedian and host Phil Roy, in partnership with Jonathan Robin, the entrepreneur behind Station Agro-Biotech in Saint-Hyacinthe. It is in this over 60,000 square foot facility that the lattes are designed and produced. The investment exceeds 30 million dollars. The plant is equipped with a continuous autoclave for can sterilization, a first in Canada for canned dairy products. Its capacity reaches 72 million cans per year.
The flavors of Trema café
The range of lattes includes:
- Latte: the classic balance between coffee and milk;
- Mocha: notes of dark chocolate, just sweet enough;
- Vanilla: a light and delicate vanilla taste;
- Extra: bolder and less sweet, with a more generous dose of caffeine;
- Hazelnut: notes of roasted hazelnuts, with no added sugar.
There is also a range of sugar-free protein lattes, with flavors like pecan and maple and cookies and cream. Each can contains 20 g of protein, 5 g of fiber, and 125 mg of caffeine, for about 170 to 180 calories depending on the flavor.
Ingredients, sugar, and caffeine
Trema lattes are made from 100% Canadian milk and contain no preservatives, taurine, or guarana. For the original range, the brand announces a maximum of 13 g of sugar per can and 125 to 175 mg of caffeine depending on the flavor. The sugar-free versions are sweetened with sucralose. Check each product's label for exact values.
