Le Grand Minuit de Montréal: the Big Free Party at the Old Port
The most popular New Year's Eve event is the Grand Minuit de Montréal, at the Jacques-Cartier Pier in the Old Port. The official site already announces the "Grand Minuit 2027" edition: meet on December 31, 2026, from 7:30 PM, with a big countdown at midnight and a show. Access is free and everyone is welcome, from toddlers to grandparents.
For the first edition of Grand Minuit on December 31, 2025, the program included DJs, the band Qualité Motel, and a medley of Quebec artists like Patrick Watson, Klô Pelgag, and Pierre Kwenders. At the stroke of midnight, fireworks lit up the sky, and the party continued until 2 AM. According to La Presse, more than 60,000 people celebrated the New Year there, and organizers confirmed the event's return in December 2026. The evening was presented with the City of Montreal, Tourisme Montréal, and the Old Port.
General Admission or VIP Service? General admission is free. For more comfort, paid VIP terraces offer a heated area, private toilets, and a private bar, as well as an elevated view of the stage. Other restaurants opted for a more casual formula: seafood menus, oyster bar, buffet, or bistro evening with DJ. Our advice: the best tables fill up quickly. For a more festive evening, the cabaret is a sure bet. Le Balcon, on Sainte-Catherine Street West, usually presents a New Year's Eve dinner-show in a chic disco atmosphere, with a multi-course meal and a glass of bubbles to toast at midnight. In Old Montreal, venues like Bord'Elle and La Voûte also offered evenings with performances and DJs during the last New Year's Eve. On the night of December 31, Montreal dances. On the last New Year's Eve, the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) organized an immersive electro party, while clubs in the Village and on Crescent Street scheduled DJs until the early hours.
