Le Temps de l'innocence (1993)
New York, 1870. L'avocat Newland Archer va bientôt épouser May Welland, scellant ainsi une alliance opportune entre les deux familles. À l'opéra, Newland retrouve la comtesse Ellen Olenska, une cousine de May qui rentre d'Europe après l'échec de son mariage. L'avocat tombe aussitôt sous son charme et n'hésite pas à la défendre lorsqu'on tente de ternir sa réputation. Dépêché par la famille pour convaincre Ellen de renoncer au divorce, Newland est déchiré entre son amour grandissant pour elle et sa loyauté envers May.
