The Village au Pied-du-Courant is a temporary urban beach set up each summer along the Saint Lawrence River, at the foot of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, in the east of Montreal. Sand, colorful pavilions, DJs, and a view of the port: it's one of the most festive spots of the season.

What is the Village au Pied-du-Courant?

Since 2014, the non-profit organization La Pépinière | Espaces collectifs has transformed this city-owned land, which serves as a snow dump in winter, into a summer public space. The project is a placemaking initiative: each year, the site is reimagined with new installations designed by artists and designers. The result: a promenade lined with pavilions, a sandy beach, and a place where Montrealers of all ages come together.

What to do at the Village au Pied-du-Courant

The Village au Pied-du-Courant is more of a meeting place than just an event. People come here for an after-work drink, a show, or an evening with friends.

  • relax on the beach with a view of the Saint Lawrence River;
  • dance to the DJs and attend shows;
  • eat at the canteen and have a drink at the biergarten;
  • play ping-pong or pétanque;
  • stroll through the Pied-du-Courant artisan market on certain Sundays.

On fireworks nights in July and August, the site offers a prime view of the show. Dogs are welcome.

2026 Season and Next Opening

In 2026, the Village opened its doors from June 4 to September 5, from Thursday to Saturday, from 5 PM to 11 PM. Entry was free before 7 PM; in the evening, low-cost tickets were available and reservations were recommended. The 2026 season is now over. The dates for summer 2027 are yet to be confirmed: keep an eye on the official website and its newsletter.

Programming and Music at the Village au Pied-du-Courant

The programming is unveiled each month: house, funk, reggae, hip-hop, afrobeats, disco, and more, with collectives from the Montreal scene.
